Corporate Social Responsibility
As education remains one of the largest challenges facing South Africa, Senseseven is pleased to be involved with the training and skilling of people in the fields of :-
a) Electronics and multimedia;
b) Development of technology and various engineering disciplines;
c) Installations that involve civil, electrical and environmental training;
d) training in the fields of renewable energy such as solar, wind and the like;
e) landscaping & horticulture in training people to design and lay-out dry bed gardens to
ensure that a concerted effort in maintaining a pleasurable environment is maintained.
Job Creation:
Senseseven’s initiative in job creation will focus in areas that will include the development of installation teams for the roll-out of solar / UPS powered traffic lights; maintenance teams that will ensure the sustainability of the project as well as creating opportunities to manage the gardens in and around our system installations.
Community development and support:
South Africa’s disadvantaged communities face many challenges that result from poverty and unemployment. The lack of infrastructure certainly poses a major problem and with this project Senseseven is committed to bring to these communities a sense of pride and belonging by ensuring that solar powered traffic light systems are not only provided to the inner cities but are also installed in the disadvantaged communities in and around Johannesburg and South Africa. The key focus on the well being of pedestrians and road users alike when it comes to road and traffic safety concerns.
Senseseven will actively participate and support the “PlayPump” water pumping system that are installed at community focal points and schools around South African and other Sub-Saharan countries.
Conservation and the environment:
As environmental concerns are on the rise around the world, Senseseven is truly blessed to be associated with Sunrise Technologies and the Johannesburg Road Agency in assisting with their project to power the traffic lights of Johannesburg by means of solar energy. The impact on energy saving and the improvement of our carbon footprint is expected to be enormous and will benefit all in and around Johannesburg and South Africa. The economical impact of this project is larger than initially meets the eye as the wheels of business will keep rolling with the flow of traffic not being halted by intermittent power failures causing major delays on our roads.
By supporting this solar initiative Senseseven will ensure that energy saving goes far and beyond the powering of traffic lights and will include the lighting of bill boards that currently consume large volumes of grid power. It is quoted that 1 major billboard absorbs the equivalent of 1080 households and on review Johannesburg has many such installations taking up power from the grid.
Enterprise Development:
Senseseven has shown in it’s involvement with Sunrise Technologies and it’s 60% black ownership, that it is truly aligned with Government policy in developing the small and medium black owned enterprises. With a strong policy of job creation and procurement from level 2 suppliers, not only is this company set to grow in itself but will ensure that others follow in its footsteps.
Economic Savings
Given the time and energy that is spent travelling between point A to point B the cost of delays caused through traffic delays as a result of traffic lights out of order is currently immeasurable. While the solution provided to power traffic lights is an excellent system it has the shortcoming in so far as the traffic light controller falls outside the scope of work requested by the JRA. This means that the benefit provided is mainly to support the unreliable supply of grid power to the Cities traffic light infrastructure and cannot be held accountable for the traffic lights that are not functioning as a result of the lights being dysfunctional as a result of the controller failure.
