The Solution
a) The powering of city traffic lights through the use of natural resources such as "THE POWER OF THE SUN"
b) The ability to power lighting for billboards that in future will provide a whole new dimension in the outdoor media world.
While creating world beating solutions to the energy crisis - these systems can be erected in any part of the country without the need for standard grid power. Further developments will ensure that hybrid solutions of wind and solar will take this business into a new era. For the city of Johannesburg the ability to lay claim to be a first to challenge the energy crisis through powering it's traffic light infrastructure through "THE POWER OF THE SUN" will also ensure that it improves it's carbon footprint and saves the rate payers an equivalent of R2,259,619 per annum.
Ideally this is a project that needs to be funded and for a change offers the funders good value add for money while appealing to their social conscious for the conservation of the life of this planet and its ever reducing energy resources.
The City of Johannesburg will receive assets to the value of ZAR 30million and reap the benefits of "THE POWER OF THE SUN". Through changing the traffic light infrastructure to solar and now having the ability to power billboards that consume vast amounts of power, a saving of in excess of 4 704 960 Watts in power per annum and R2,260m in cost savings while improving our carbon credits by 18 077 tons of coal within a short space of time.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
All the products we use are among the best of class in the world and have been tried; tested and are well supported by their OEM's.
Panels
A flexi-solar panel developed in the United States by a major international player and previously used in the field of telecommunication and major solar applications are among the best in the world. These panels provide a 20 year warranty, are vandal proof and can withstand extreme weather conditions. Unlike its photovoltaic counterpart the flexi-panel is close to being indestructible and has been used in some very robust type systems under extreme conditions.
While our main source of product is the flexi-panel the company also provides a range of traditional photo-voltaic product that is used in the field of telecommunication and integrated building systems.
Batteries
Our batteries are " PowerSafe VE" battery that is a valve regulated lead acid battery that has been designed to offer competitive solutions for the global telecommunications and information technology markets, however, through their overall design and specification they are the most suitable batteries for the more traditional sectors such as emergency lighting and utilities.
While the batteries used in the systems provided the company also offers a range of batteries for all forms of industry, being traction, automotive, standby through to aircraft and rail. More recently the company has added a new Ni-Zn battery to it's range that is extremely environmentally friendly and is more durable that the common lead acid batteries. The cost of this product is at present a inhibiting factor that will overtime become more reasonably priced.
Inverter:
Our inverter is probably the most advanced inverter in the present day market that provides us with the necessary intelligence for remote monitoring our systems. Coupled with some advanced technology we can provide pro-active maintenance and service 24 - 7- 365 days of the year.
Remote Monitoring
A supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) Package yet to be installed will set the pace in remote monitoring of our systems. This system has already been tried and tested on a much larger scale in the world of telecommunications and is set to enter the arena of traffic control systems and billboard lighting.
Instant messaging to our maintenance team will ensure that down times will be limited to almost non-existent as the problems should be identified before the actually happen.
Lighting
Lighting has been provided from various sources and is mainly an LED lighting solution. The lights are acquired from an international company and provide 40,000 hours of light. A variety of lighting is available from amenity lighting to street and perimeter lighting. Not only does the company offer LED lighting but provides a range of low energy lighting.
Wind Turbine
The Osprey GR-1 is a 1.5 Kilowatt vertical axis wind turbine that has been designed to eliminate the noise factor through it's unique fin system. The product is capable of providing usable power generated from wind speeds as low as 14 KPH (kilometres per hour) and is environmentally friendly.
Further to the products listed above, all associated products linked to the supply of renewable energy are available.
